Why we quote in weeks, not months

A six-month deadline is a polite way of saying we don't know. We'd rather deliver every two weeks.

A project estimated at six months gets delivered in nine. Not out of bad faith: nobody knows in month one what will be needed by month five.

That's why we work in two-week deliveries. It's not a methodological preference, it's a way of spreading the risk: by week four you're already using something, and fixes come in while they're still cheap.

What this means for you. You need someone available for an hour every two weeks to look at what's been delivered and say what's wrong. That's not a lot of time, but it's not zero, and the projects where nobody can spare it are the ones that end up off track.
